Thursday 25 May 2023, MICA CENTER teams were honoured by the visit of a delegation from Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE) led by the Director General Charlina Vitcheva.

‘The Directorate-General works to ensure that the ocean resources are used sustainably and that coastal communities and the fishing sector have a prosperous future, promote maritime policies and stimulate a sustainable blue economy and promote ocean governance at international level.’

This visit to CECLANT – Golfe de Guinée and MICA CENTER was conducted in conjunction with the European Maritime Day 23 event in Brest and concluded a fruitful week of visits and encounters with representatives of European agencies involved in maritime domain : European Union Satellite Center – SatCen, European Maritime Safety Agency – EMSA, Maritime Analysis and Operations Centre (Narcotics) – MAOC (N), European External Action Service , Frontex, European Fisheries Control Agency – EFCA & DG MARE.

For our teams, these visits were the perfect opportunity to show and explain the French Navy and European Union work for a global maritime security through French (Voluntary Naval Cooperation), European Union (MSC-HoA European Union Naval Force – Operation ATALANTA) and multinational (MDAT-GoG and NCAGS) mechanisms.

Also this has been a week full of understanding on how our diversity and a better mutual comprehension of diverse scopes of action can lead to avoid duplication and open ways for complementarity.
